| Welcome to the fifth Charity Books newsletter of 2005! ++++++++++++++++++++ NSPCC Top Charity in May ++++++++++++++++++++ Thanks to Working Partners Ltd of Hammersmith who donated 250+ brand new children’s books and 50+ audio books we have now raised over £320 for the NSPCC. ++++++++++++++++++++ Next on the list are The Sainsbury Book Archive in London, who are having a clear out and potentially some work for The Severn Hospice charity in Shropshire and Mid Wales. ++++++++++++++++++++ £666,400! Yes over half a million pounds for “De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium” (1543) by Nicolaus Copernicus. It was a fine first edition with annotations by astronomer John Greaves. It sold at Sotheby’s in London on 10 June 2004. A “For Whom the Bell Tolls” (1940) by Ernest Hemingway sold for $310,400 USD at Sotheby’s New York on 16 th November 2004. It was one of 15 advance copies and was inscribed to Hemingway’s wife. It was a fine copy with no dust jacket. ++++++++++++++++++++ Ideally we need hardback books that are in good condition. Non-fiction books can be just as popular (if not more popular) as novels.
